Autism group slates open house tonight - al.com: "There's no cookie-cutter approach to helping everyone affected by autism, said Mary Thweatt, whose 8-year-old son was diagnosed years ago with Asperger Syndrome.

'That's why we need to see parents or talk to them,' said Thweatt, who directs the Center for Au tism and Asperger Resources, a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Robertsdale. 'And a great way to get together is our open house.'

Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulty communicating and interacting with others. The American Medical Association says that one in 150 children is diagnosed with autism."
