Gulf Shores declares state of emergency as Gulf oil spill grows | al.com: "GULF SHORES, Ala. -- City officials declared a state of emergency Saturday evening anticipating a scramble on the local level to keep oil and related contaminants off local beaches and out of environmentally sensitive coastal backwaters.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft said he was 'doubtful' that booms placed in the Gulf would stop the oil slick from reaching the shores of Baldwin County, and had prepared a plan to close off environmentally sensitive Little Lagoon with sand if contaminants threaten."
